About Flight Deck DIY

Built by a pilot, for pilots.

I'm Nate, an FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFII) and software engineer based in Utah. I've spent years training students on the Garmin G1000, and I got tired of watching people fumble with a mouse when they should be flying.

The G1000 is the standard glass cockpit for most modern training aircraft. It's what pilots use for IFR, instrument checkrides, and commercial training. And muscle memory matters. The difference between a smooth approach and a missed approach often comes down to whether your fingers know where the buttons are before you're under the hood.

I built Flight Deck DIY because I couldn't find hardware that was both realistic and affordable. The commercial options are $1,500–$3,000+. Mine is $500, fully assembled, plug-and-play, ships within 10 days (each one is built and tested by hand).

What we've shipped:

  • 40+ units delivered worldwide
  • Customers in 10+ countries

Every unit is handbuilt to order in Utah. No warehouse, no dropshipping. I build it, I test it, I ship it.
